Blood donation

sang1_e

Animal blood donors are vital for saving the lives
of seriously sick or injured cats and dogs.

One donation can save up
to four lives

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR ANIMAL WHEN IT GIVES BLOOD?

First, we will take a blood sample to do a complete blood profile and to identify its blood type.

Depending on its temperament, your pet may need to be sedated. This short-acting sedation is administered by injection. Approximately 450 ml of blood will be withdrawn from your dog, or 50 ml from your cat. Your pet will receive a meal as soon as the effect of the sedative is over.

Your pet must rest for the remainder of the day, and stay under observation in our treatment room.

We keep a record of dates and withdrawal sites as well as any relevant details. Pets can safely give blood every six weeks, but we prefer to wait four months between donations.
